Hurricanes Worries In Key West

Report Date: August 30, 2004

So I guess there is a price to pay for living in the Florida Keys. For the most part we have exceptional weather 12 month of the year, however, there is the risk of hurricanes. Hurricanes season means much more to south Florida residents now than it might have a month ago. With Several storm having a direct impact on the state of Florida in the last month.

Key West somehow has managed to escape this wrath of storms. Yes, we have had bad weather and lots of rain and high winds, however, we never had a direct hit??..I guess one of the great thing about the location of the Keys is that is not only provide great fishing year round, but Key West sits between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Which mean in most the storms will slide by south west of us heading toward the Gulf or Push east of us on up the coast of Florida.

I did manage to get out quite a bit in August and I have to admit the fishing was pretty good. Not always great due to the dirty water from the high wind, however, overall there was plenty of action to be seen???.

Lots of Bonefish and of course a great number of Permit?..On several days I did mange to find some Tarpon so there was much fun to be had with them. I fish early in the morning and late in the evening this time of year to beat the heat. Full days start early. An as always those rascally Tarpon seem to get frisky around sun down?.

Don?t let hurricane season scare you out of your chance to catch in on the great fishing in Key West.
