Thanks For Fishing, Key West, Florida Tarpon Season 2003

Report Date: June 2, 2003

Tarpon fishing in Key West in May was chock full of fun and excitement for most all my anglers. What a thrill it is for me to guide beginners and veteran anglers on their epic battle against the Tarpon or in some cases the Permit, often enough both in a day.

A birthday Tarpon was caught by one of my anglers from Texas. His Tarpon would hit the scale around 80lb. If that catch was not enough, he then managed to catch a healthy 25 lb, Permit. His father then chimed in on the action as he caught and boated a Permit and pulled the hook on another Great action on the flats! Happy Birthday.

A lady angler led things of one May morning when a Tarpon slammed her Purple Whizbanger fly. Measuring out the fish we figure She? weighed about 65 or 70lb.

A Typical Key West Tarpon!

Not a bad first time Tarpon on a fly rod. If that was not enough, she managed to catch a Permit on a live fiddler crab later in the day. You go Girl!

One evening during a night Tarpon trip my anglers where able to jump eight Tarpon and get two to the boat. As the fish jumped into the sunset we decided there was no place better in the world than fly-fishing for Tarpon in Key West, Fl. These fish were feeding on shrimp just below the surface. Rising Tarpon, feeding on shrimp looks like a trout rising to a dry fly, only a whole lot bigger fish. Thanks for the fun guys!

Smutty and Al?s Tarpon Bonanza, we did not win first place but we had a lot of fun.
We had awesome shots at Tarpon with a fly rod, however we could not get them to eat.
We did mange to catch a couple of monster Permit on spinning tackle. The fist Permit we caught was supposed to be a Tarpon. As we cast a live crab into a school of daisy chaining Tarpon, we hooked up rite away. Then after a Ten-minute battle with the fish and no jumps I declared it to be a Permit. After 25 minutes hoisting the fish along side the boat we figured the Permit weighed about 30lb. Nice fishing, we?ll get the Tarpon next year. Dave, don?t keep your cell phone in the cooler anymore, they don?t seem to like that.

There are many more great fish tales from the month of May, to many to list, sorry if I missed you.

Thank you to my entire customers in May, old and new, hope you had as much fun as I did.
Looking forward to fishing with you again in the future!

For those of you coming down in June, Lets get it on! The Tarpon are here in
Key West, Fl.

If you want to get in on the hot fishing action in Key West, give me a call and we?ll go Fish.

Lets Go Fish!
